ECO house
YORKSHIRE
the reconstruction of a 250sm derelict barn with the addition of 250sm of living area via a glazed link with a 100sm pool & leisure suite - this property was designed to be virtually off-grid
ground source heat pumps & near Passiv Haus insulation made this a house for 21st C & beyond
NMD co-ordinated the interior & exterior build, the M&E integration along with the functionality of the pool & energy management
the barn was unstable with a collapsing roof - we constructed a highly insulated timber frame 'box' structure within the barn, which supported a new Yorkshire stone roof - the barn was connected with a two storey glass link & an open glass & steel bridge to the new build accommodation - which was stone faced timber frame in traditional style - the bridge acted as a duct carrying services between the new & old parts of the dwelling
all of the property had a wet UFH heating system married to heat pump ground source fed from an adjacent paddock - the house had grey water recycling, filtration & storage
the house & the pool were heated by the heat pump the only grid connections were for electricity to mange the systems - the plant room sat on a floating pad to eliminate any vibration of plant noise from the living spaces
internally double height and open plan spaces afforded private views of Yorkshire hilltop farm land
